TRAVEL AND TRANSPORT INFORMATION

Unfortunately there are no airports in the area, par from the landing strip where one would need to clear customs first in Maputo. 

Self-drive to the Kosi Bay / Kwanganase border post; Northern KZN. 

4x4’s are required from the border. Border transfers are available. There are two secure car park areas (SA and Moz side) for vehicles not coming through to Ponta at R30 p/ day.  Transfer times are set at 11am to meet the dolphin schedule.

One can fly into Durban and be transferred from there. Transfers return from Durban can be arranged on Mondays and Thursdays @ R1000 p/p min two. 

VEHICLES 

Temporary vehicle importation is required as is insurance if you want to bring your vehicle through the border. The cost is R160. Please have all vehicle/trailer documents with you.

Kosi Bay / Kwanganase: 8am to 5pm sharp 

maputo - ponta do ouro 4 hrs 

(120km 4x4 required) 

johannesburg - kosi bay 9 - 11hrs (road works)

(650km, 4x4 required from border)(fly to richards bay - hire a car and overnight)

durban - ponta 5 hrs 

(500km 4x4 required from border)

(fly from cape town to durban or richards bay, car hire to kosi border).

VISAS 

SA passport holders do not require a visa to enter Mozambique, foreign passport holders can expect to pay R190 - R600 at the border for a 30 day tourist visa. There is a R20 border tax to be paid in cash on the Mozambique side. Passports must be valid for 6 months and have at least two un-stamped, blank pages.

MALARIA 

In the last 15 years none of our staff have contracted malaria and none take prophylactics, however the choice is yours. Natural remedies are available from most pharmacies. Peaceful sleep or citronella helps to keep the mossie at bay. Open flames are not permitted in the rooms.

MEDICAL AND HEALTHCARE

Check with you Medical Aid or medical rescue plan if they fly into southern Mozambique (across the SA border) in the event of a medical emergency. The area has limited medical facilities and the closest hospital is at Kwangwanase in South Africa. It is recommended that an adquate First Aid kit is packed to handle basic medical requirements.
